Chipone LED driver solution assisted Tiananmen parad

September 3rd is the 7th anniversary of Chipone, which is also the 70th anniversary of the victory for the resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. In Tiananmen Square a large parade was held, at the scene there were two large 360 square meters LED display. With such huge display area it requires 3 million drivers, and these devices are ICN2026 provided by Chipone.

LED display is developing towards high brightness, full color, small space between cells, has higher and higher requirements for display drivers. In order to meet the market demand for specific constant current source devices, Chipone officially released ICN2026 to the market in 2012, received recognition from market and praise from customers. At the same time, we also continue listening to customers’ feedback, update and improve ICN2026 to meet market demand. In April 2014, cumulative shipments of ICN2026 exceeded 100 million. Up until June 2015, shipment volume have been over 350 million, is worthy of the name "flagship product".

ICN2026 is a 16-channel constant current output LED driver chip. It has excellent performance in maximum output current, constant current source output, current output error (bit-bit, chip-chip) and data shift clock. The chip applies "Noise Free" technology, with excellent anti-interference characteristics. Constant current and low ash effect is not affected by the PCB board. Different values external resistors can be connected to adjust the output level, so as to control the LED light intensity precisely. Inside ICN2026 there are 16-bit shift registers and latches, is able to convert serial input data to parallel output data format, and through external enable signal control the LED can be shutdown. Internally it applies precision current drive control technology, the difference in current between channels of the same chip, and the difference from devices to devices is minimal, and the current difference between channels is less than ± 1.3%. The current difference between different devices is less than ± 2.5%.

It has a current output characteristic that is not affected by the load terminal voltage. The output current will not change with the LED forward voltage VF changes.

The ICN2026 adjusts the output current (Iout) by the external resistor Rext.

The formula is: Iout = (VR-EXT / Rext) * 15 (VR-EXT = 1.232V). 

The ICN2026 is available in SSOP24, SOP24 and QFN24 packages.

In summary, the ICN2026’s competitive advantages are: low cost, good matching, extremely low interference between even and odd channels to the power supply, excellent grey scale display performance in lower level, no vertical strips artifact, extremely low noise interference, can be applied to extremely low grade PCBs.

After comparing several similar products on the market, we found that ICN2026 has the largest output current range (0.5 mA to 35mA / 0.5 mA to 65mA) at all competing products. ICN2026 current consistency is the best among all products, and because of this the display effect is the best. The minimum output current response time of ICN2026 is 40ns, in real applications, the smaller the better, however in most cases this value are exaggerated, therefore it is more practical to see the output falling edge, the best to check low gray display effect, and this is where the advantage of ICN2026 is.

In this case, ICN2026 is used in the Tiananmen Square large parade scene LED large screen, the chip's performance advantage is fully reflected. This is also the great achievement since Chipone and Riyadh Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. reached a strategic cooperation agreement in 2013. At the same time, the company launched strategic cooperation with multiple customers on LED display and driver chip research and development, especially in the small-distance screen driver chip optimization, performing in-depth study in this area.

In 2015 the LED small pitch technology accelerate its innovation, from the outdoor to the interior, from the commercial areas to television. At the same time, there is still no breakthrough in problems from LED small pitch in "low light gray" areas, solving support of multi-signal, complex signal system access and control display and so on. In the seamless tile stitching, high-speed correction, reducing the dead light rate, ensuring the stability of the screen and other technology still have a long way to go. At the same time, the domestic LED small pitch products in the market are still staying in mature areas. While in civil and other areas, although the technology is already available in technology, it is still in the immature stage. With this parade as an opportunity, Chipone will work with customers together to further strengthen the small pitch LED display and drivers’ research to meet the increasingly high application requirements.
